Our Mission
The Hightower Trail Middle School (HTMS) Husky Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit educational foundation dedicated to supporting the mission and educational goals of both HTMS and Cobb County Schools.
The mission of the HTMS Husky Foundation is to provide the needed funding resources for curriculum connected programs and facilities for the Hightower community of students, parents and educators to deliver the highest level of middle school excellence.
Our History
The Husky Foundation was formed in October, 2007 by a group of parents and HTMS staff interested in helping enrich the educational opportunities at Hightower Trail Middle School, as well as providing a vehicle for parents, community, and corporations to contribute and support education in a tax beneficial manner.
The Husky Foundation provides funding for programs that are not currently financed by Cobb County, the state or the PTSA.
The Foundation is a Georgia non-profit corporation that received its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS. The business of the Foundation is managed and conducted by a Board of Directors. The Bylaws provide that the Board of Directors will always include a representative from the PTSA and a member of the HTMS faculty.
Our Commitment
Through annual memberships and fundraising, the Husky Foundation will fund key school curriculum connected programs and facilities that will directly benefit each HTMS student that would not be possible through other means.
How is the Foundation structured?
The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors which includes parents, community leaders, school administrators and teacher liaisons who volunteer their time and resources to accomplish the Foundation's objectives.
What does the Foundation do?
The Husky Foundation raises funds and allocates resources to expand the educational opportunities of our students. Working in partnership with the county, school and PTSA, we identify areas that are not funded by these resources and provide the means to continue HTMS' leadership role in educational excellence. Our priorities for 2009-2010 can be divided into three areas:
- Technology
- Safety and Success
- Membership
Technology
Our primary goal for this year is to provide supplemental funding to open an additional computer lab with 20 computers. This would provide a computer lab for each grade at HTMS.
Safety and Success
Last year, the Foundation provided a crossing guard to minimize traffic backups on Post Oak Tritt Road in the morning; making a much safer end efficient flow of vehicles into and out of the school. This constitutes a very small percentage of our budget, but provides a much needed service that the county is unable to provide.
In addition, the Foundation annually provides the "Husky 101 Camp" for rising 6th graders to ensure a successful transition to middle school. We will offer it again in June, 2010.
Membership
Entering into our second year as an established Foundation, a major priority is to engage 100% of our HTMS families. Establishing memberships makes funds readily available at the beginning of each year, and reduces our dependence on fundraisers.
If you have not done so, we ask that you join the Foundation now. All contributions are tax deductible and go directly to providing resources to improve our school. You can also apply for matching gifts from your employer and double your generosity to the Husky Foundation.
